Weekend Watch: Not Necessarily a ‘Win Win’ Weekend

This week gives us few potentially watchable flicks but nothing great. It’s mid-march, which means nothing will be very exciting (to be fair, the noteworthy Greenberg did come out same time last year, but there’s a particularly large amount of mediocrity going on. If you want a decent dramedy that has something for everyone, Win Win, starring Paul Giamatti, is probably your best bet.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block

There's no Spielberg on this Top 100, Super 8 was left off the list and the Nick Frost and Simon Pegg penned alien comedy Paul wasn't even considered, but this comedy/alien invasion film appears to be a throwback to 80's films equipped with a zesty Brit humor that we found in his Star Wars action figure sketches appears to be an ideal feature introduction for this new helmer. Expectation levels with either increase or dip when the trailer is released.

Tracking Shot September 2010: Yellow, Wuthering Heights, Super 8, Return, My Week with Marilyn, Drive and Contagion

Across the pond, I'm liking the sound of the new Michelle Williams' film - a take on Marilyn Monroe while on a 1957 set with Laurence Olivier to be played by Kenneth Branagh. Weinstein Co. is onboard My Week with Marilyn, which should begin shooting soon in the U.K. Andrea Arnold's Wuthering Heights still needs its Heathcliff and supporting cast. I imagine that long list is a short list by now, and that we should hear some casting news probably during TIFF with filming, at best, beginning at the very end of the month.
