The Weinstein co. makes news again, this time broadening its ever-growing scope into the world of nature documentaries with the French film The Besieged Fortress. The film will be released in France later this month by French firm TF1 Intl, with United States and English-speaking territories distributed by the Weinstein Co. in America, with English voiceover instead of subtitles.
Paramount Vantage has made another acquisition, this time plunging into the horror genre with Details. The film, written by Dan Kay and based on a short story China Mieville, will be produced by Paramount’s Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, along with his colleague Amy Israel. Steven Schneider and Ian Levy will serve as executive producers.
Back in August Production Weekly reported that Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor were booked for the project and now the duo becomes as trio as Michelle Williams has signed onto star in what might be an eye full of a project. Put in turnaround by Fox and then financed independently, the production for The Tourist begins in New York on Oct.13th.
The Weinstein Co. is hiring quite a bit this week under their international banner. Signing a pact to release eight U.K. pics a year, they have been busy assigning projects to various (mostly U.K. based) directors. Their most recent (and in my eyes, most exciting) employee is Danny Boyle who will take on Lee Hall and Robert Nelson Jacobs' Solomon Grundy.
A quick weekend announcement before showcasing the film at the 44th annual New York Film Festival, New Yorker Films announced they picked up the dramedy.
