The one time top 3 script not produced in Hollywood will be distributed by MGM and produced by Sidney Kimmel, John Cameron and Sarah Aubrey.

This true story of a failed coup was chronicled in Adam Roberts’ book The Wonga Coup: Guns, Thugs and a Ruthless Determination to Create Mayhem in an Oil-Rich Corner of Africa just released in August of this year, and already picked up by Miramax Films.

Nussbaum, Lindsay Give ‘Cougars’ Comedic Bite

Focus Features, the specialty films division of Universal Pictures, has snapped up Erik Lindsay’s romantic comedy Cougars and paired him up once again with Joe Nussbaum to helm the project. The duo previously teamed up for the upcoming “American Pie 5:The Naked Mile”, set to release in 2007, as writer and director respectively.

The year is 2054. The city, Paris. Walled off from the rest of the world, Paris has been expanded in every direction—up, down, and inward—but out, resulting in a futuristic maze-like metropolis superimposed over the classical architecture for which the city is world famous. A network of streets and passageways (and also waterways) crisscross the airspace between street level and the heights of the city’s towers. Glass enclosed shopping centers operate below ground. Images on billboards move and speak, advertising the sale of eternal youth and beauty. Among these streets a woman in her early twenties is kidnapped outside a dance club in an intense, stylish, and bizarre sequence that projects through the windows of your mind like a scene from a David Lynch remake of Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train animated by Frank Miller.

Page, Reitman join ‘Juno’

Up-and-coming actress Ellen Page will star opposite Michael Cera in up-and-coming director Joseph Reitman’s Juno, a coming-of-age comedy that’s being produced by Mandate Pictures, John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd Productions, and Reitman’s own Hard C. Diablo Cody wrote the script.
