The Innocents
Eskil Vogt, the co-writer for Joachim Trier’s films, should have his sophomore directorial effort The Innocents ready for a major film festival in 2020. Shot by Sturla Brandth Grovlen (who lensed Sebastian Schipper’s Victoria and Grimur Hakornasson’s Rams, both 2015, and set to have a busy cinema year ahead having worked on Benh Zeitlin’s Wendy, Josephine Decker’s Shirley, and Thomas Vinterberg’s Next Round in addition to Vogt’s film) and is produced by Mer Film’s Maria Ekerhovd, Mark Lwoff, and Misha Jaari. Vogt’s 2014 directorial debut Blind premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenwriting – World Dramatic award.
Gist: The Innocents concerns what happens to a group of children while their parents aren’t looking.
Release Date/Prediction: Vogt (we featured him as part of our IONCINEPHILE of the Month) began collecting funding in 2018 with production set for late autumn of 2019. If rushed, the print could be readied for Cannes, but we’re expecting Vogt to be a contender at Venice or potentially in TIFF’s Platform competition.
