2025 Marrakech Film Festival: Meryem Benm’Barek, Lucía Aleñar Iglesias & Akinola Davies Jr. in Comp

Date:

Along with France’s Les Arcs Film Festival in December the last major film festival of note on the film festival map is Marrakech. Today the festival unveiled some major titles but our focus tends to go towards the competition offerings. From the bustling streets of Singapore and London to the sun-drenched landscapes of Tunisia and Sudan, blending recent titles from Cannes, Venice, and Toronto, the fourteen feature film lineup punctuated and nurtured by the festival’s own Atlas Workshops, Artistic Director Rémi Bonhomme included a pair of docus and managed to lasso two world premieres namely Meryem Benm’Barek‘s tense thriller, Behind the Palm Trees. Jury President Bong Joon-ho and his jury people (not yet named) will be bestowing the multiple prizes of that program. Here are the selections:

Aisha Can’t Fly Away – Morad Mostafa
Amoeba – Siyou Tan
Before the Bright Day – Shih-Han Tsao
Behind the Palm Trees – Meryem Benm’Barek
Broken Voices – Ondřej Provazník

Laundry – Zamo Mkhwanazi
Memory – Vladlena Sandu
My Father and Qaddafi – Jihan K
My Father’s Shadow – Akinola Davies Jr.
