Interview: Yorgos Gousis – Magnetic Fields

In anticipation of the upcoming 95th Academy Awards, I chatted with Yorgos Gousis, whose debut film Magnetic Fields is Greece’s official submission in consideration for the Best International Feature Category. Gousis discusses the origins of the project, shot at the height of COVID on a handheld MiniDV Camcorder, with an outline of a script and a crew of seven to shoot a highly improvised love story/road movie. Channeling 1990s aesthetics, Gousis discusses inspirations and how he utilized almost all the footage shot over the day period of production.
