Interview: Yorgos Lanthimos & Jerskin Fendrix – Bugonia

Date:

There is a chaotic violence at the core of Yorgos LanthimosBugonia and so when the filmmaker re-teamed with Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness composer Jerskin Fendrix the goal might have been to strum up something to the tune of an impending apocalypse. Recorded with the 90-piece London Contemporary Orchestra, Fendrix offers a score of provocative sounds to set off an irritable greet and meet. Using a gritty, bombastic sound which is described as thrashy, angsty, and loud, we descend into madness to what then feels like a soft(er) landing. Via a virtual junket I got to ask about how they came to what felt like a score that feels at odds with the visuals and the inclusion of a song (Where Have All the Flowers Gone?) that felt like an almost obvious choice for when the film leaves the dock. Focus Features expands Bugonia wide in theatres this weekend.
