2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Walter Salles’ On the Road

Date:

Gist: 30 years in the making, the Francis Ford Coppola produced, Walter Salles directed On the Road is based on a seminal book from Beat Gen’s Jack Kerouac who spent traveling America in the 1940s with folks such as Neal Cassady, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg. Crazy good looking cast of Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams will be strutting their stuff on the red carpet.

Prediction: The only previous times Salles didn’t premiere his film in the Main Comp section was when he presented a short film (Paris, Je T’aime and To Each His Own Cinema). The Motorcycle Diaries and Linha de Passe (2008) and this road movie will make it three for three, especially since the film will get released domestically in French theaters during the fest. The bigger question is: will the doc film he made about the making of the film also show?
