Top 100 Most Anticipated American Indie Films of 2018: #15. David Robert Mitchell’s Under the Silver Lake

Under the Silver Lake

With filming having taken place in October of 2016, David Robert Mitchell‘s highly anticipated third film is slowly being positioned for a stealthy release. We’ve been tracking Mitchell’s rise since he launched The Myth Of The American Sleepover at SXSW, but with the A24 folks onboard from the getgo, this modern noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles will be more shapely than his previous pair. It Follows cinematographer Mike Gioulakis and score via Disasterpeace combine the efforts for what should be an atmospheric genre item that stylistically will surely be stellar.

Starring Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, Topher Grace and Zosia Mamet, the story centers on a man named Sam (Garfield) who becomes obsessed with the strange circumstances of a billionaire mogul’s murder and the kidnapping of a girl. Keough stars as Sarah, Sam’s new neighbour. Grace stars as Sam’s friend who helps him with an investigation surrounding a missing woman. Budget wise, this is Mitchell’s big breakout bigger indie film.

Release Date/Prediction: A24 will likely look to premiere this at Cannes, where Mitchell has been showcased twice.
