La práctica

It’s already been five years since Martín Rejtman’s (one of the key figures of New Argentine Cinema) last film, 2014’s Two Shots Fired (though just this year, his short film Shakti was in Berlin). Rejtman has stated his lasted project, The Practice, which will be hist first film shot outside of Argentina, is one he’s been subconsciously prepping for the last two decades. The project became a five country co-production in 2019 between Rosa Films (Portugal), La Unión de los Ríos (Argentina), Forastero (Chile), The Film Kitchen (Netherlands), Pandora Films (Germany), and Interior XIII (Mexico) and will be headlined by Esteban Bigliardi (recently of La Flor, Murder Me, Monster and The Summit). Rejtman has thrice competed for Locarno’s Golden Leopard (Cropped Head, 1992; The Magic Gloves, 2003; Two Shot Fired, 2014).

Gist: In The Practice, Argentine yoga instructor Gustavo resides in Chile, and a recent injury prohibits him from continuing his yoga practice after losing his wife and home, which leads to a variety of absurd interactions in this naturalistic comedy.

Release Date/Prediction: Rejtman’s latest was scheduled for production at the end of 2019—without any delays, we’d be looking at Rejtman to potentially return to Locarno or potentially make an entrance in Venice 2020.
