The Way of the Wind

Terrence Malick turns to Jesus for what will stand as his tenth narrative feature The Way of the Wind (which was the recently announced new title of the project formerly known as The Last Planet). Malick has reunited with Hidden Life DP Jorg Widmer and his cast consists of Geza Rohrig, Matthias Schoenaerts, Mark Rylance, Aidan Turner, Joseph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Douglas Booth, Tawfeek Barhom, Martin McCann, Ori Pfeffer, Shadi Mar’i, Makram Khoury, Numan Acar, Emilio De Marchi, Bjorn Thors, Alfonso Postiglione, Lorenzo Gioielli, Mathieu Kassovitz and Ali Suliman. The elusive Malick, thus far, has won both the Golden Bear (1998’s The Thin Red Line) and the Palme d’Or (2011’s The Tree of Life). He competed in Berlin again in 2015 with Knight of Cups and in Cannes he also competed in 1979 with Days of Heaven and 2019 with A Hidden Life. Venice has selected Malick for competition twice, in 2012 with To the Wonder and 2016 with Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey.

Gist: The Way of the Wind relays several noted episodes from the life of Jesus Christ (Rohrig), supposedly with a dark, genre twist.

Release Date/Prediction: Malick revealed he has finished shooting as of November 2020, and rumors of a return to Cannes for the fourth time in competition in 2021 suggests an imminent invitation should the director have a cut ready in time.
