Top 50 Most Anticipated American Independent Films of 2019: #46. Patrick Brice’s Corporate Animals

Date:

Corporate Animals

A last minute addition for what might be a vintage Midnight section at the Sundance Film Festival, Patrick Brice went into production this past June in Santa Fe, New Mexico with what could have been a great tonally versatile character for Sharon Stone, but instead, Demi Moore has the conch in Corporate Animals. Brice’s fourth feature film in almost as many years, as demonstrated in another quartet comedy with a twist in The Overnight (see our Sundance Trading Card profile), this West Coast filmmaker is as equally formidable in writing comedy and/or horror and make the pic land one memorable knockout sequence.

Gist: Written by Sam Bain, Moore plays Lucy, the egotistical CEO of Incredible Edibles, America’s premier provider of edible cutlery. During a corporate team-building weekend in New Mexico, which she insists her staff members attend, disaster suddenly strikes, trapping them all underground. This mismatched and disgruntled group must pull together in order to survive, amidst sexual tension, startling business revelations and casual cannibalism.

Release Date/Prediction: Premiering at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section on January 29th, this could trickle into SXSW as well.
