2022 NYFF: James Ivory, Martin Scorsese, Schrader’s She Said, Chukwu’s Till, & Polley’s Women Talking in Spotlight Section

And finally, it is the New York Film Festival that will have lassoed the highly anticipated world premiere to Maria Schrader’s She Said. Initially, when the trailer dropped, we were thinking this might have a run like Spotlight did – securing premieres at the big four fall film festivals. Instead, we got a solo NYC playdate. Universal will launch the film theatrically on November 18th. This stars Adam Shapiro, Zoe Kazan, Carey Mulligan, Samantha Morton, Andre Braugher and Patricia Clarkson. After being a no-show during TIFF announcements, the Spotlight section will also include the world preem for Chinonye Chukwu’s Till – the drama will be showcased on the opening weekend just prior to its theatrical release a couple of weeks later. Sarah Polley’s Women Talking further commits to building buzz via a North America strategy with a premiere showcase here. Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All (which is headed to the Fantastic fest just prior) will make a pit-stop in New York City as well.

From Cannes, The Super 8 Years (read review) and Marco Bellocchio’s six-part series Exterior Night (read review) will share the section spotlight along with world preems from James Ivory and Giles Gardner (A Cooler Climate), Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi (Personality Crisis: One Night Only), Elvis Mitchell (Is That Black Enough for You?!?) and Chris Smith (Sr.). Lars von Trier’s The Kingdom Exodus completes the section. The 60th New York Film Festival will take place Sept. 30th – Oct. 16th. The Currents section which housed The Great Movement, A Night of Knowing Nothing, The Tale of King Crab, The Tsugua Diaries in 2021 will be the next section to be unveiled.
