Top 100 Most Anticipated American Indie Films of 2018: #43. Joe Berlinger’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

Date:

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

When Zac Efron presented at the Golden Globes, I’m sure several very little folks in that room (or the collective living rooms) were thinking that 2018 will be a career year, or at least a 180 degree turn for the actor with films from Harmony Korine, and in Joe Berlinger. We’ve known Berlinger since the wallop known as Brother’s Keeper dropped in ’92 and with the exception of Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000), he has stuck to the docu form … that is until the Black List screenplay written by Michael Werwie (also Nicholl Fellowship first prize winner) landed on his lap. Casting of Efron took place during Cannes, and the final elements are just now being added and they began filming commenced one week ago.

Spotful & IONCINEMA.com

Starring Zac Efron, Lily Collins and John Malkovich, told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer (Collins), Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, who went years denying the accusations against Bundy but ultimately turned him in to the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grisly crimes. If this relates to docu-anything, it could be bone-chilling in tone.

Release Date/Prediction: Toronto Int. Film Festival (outside chance for Venice) appears to be the only possible launch pad for the film.
