‘Rob’bing & Stealin: Pattinson Holds Up Safdie Bros.’ “Good Time”

Date:

Quenching his need for auteur-driven material, after recent gigs with Brady Corbet and James Gray, Robert Pattinson becomes the first player to join the Safdie Bros.’s thrilling new gun powder friendly title. Steeped in the exploitation film subgenre of neo-grindhouse, Good Time will be produced by Elara Pictures’ Sebastian Bear-McClard (currently batting 1000 with his first cred being Heaven Knows What). Further casting announcements could arrive shortly as the project is reeved up for international sales at the upcoming edition for TIFF.

Gist: Written by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, this centers on a bankrobber’s flailing efforts to evade the dragnet closing in on him. Pattinson will star as Connie.

Worth Noting: The Safdies were already two degrees of separation from Pattinson as Caleb Landry Jones was featured in (son of David) Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral.

Do We Care?: Heaven Knows What played extremely well with the IONCINEMA team — our Jordan M. Smith called the film an “open-hearted, rawly bellicose realization of addiction has only been graced on celluloid but a handful of times, making the Safdie’s film a new exemplar of narcotic cinema for the ages,” the directing team plus regular contributor Bronstein are undoubtedly at the top of their game early into their filmography. We’re curious as to how they’ll immerse themselves into B-movie grind-like subgenre.
