Alexandre Rockwell, Danny Madden & David Gutnik Selected for USIP Paris: 2019 Champs-Elysées Film Festival

It’s that post-Cannes time of year again and the US IN PROGRESS folks have selected eight film projects for the 2019 8th edition of USIP Paris – 2019 Champs-Elysées Film Festival edition. Among the recognizable names we find veteran filmmaker Alexandre Rockwell (who recently saw his fourth feature, 1992’s In the Soup get a re-release), Danny Madden (was a winner at 2018 SXSW for Krista) and David Gutnik (Before You See the Light) who now has a pair in post-production. One of these could very well end up at Sundance next year, not to mention SXSW and Tribeca.

Lingua Franca directed by Isabel Sandoval and produced by Carlo Velayo and Jhett Tolentino. (3rd feature)
Slow Machine directed by Paul Felten & Joe Denardo / produced by Caroline von Kuhn, Alex Witherill & Shrihari Sathe. (1st feature)
Sweet Thing directed by Alexandre Rockwell and produced by Kenan Baysal, Louis Anania and Haley Anderson. (6th feature)
The Carnivores directed by Caleb Michael Johnson and produced by Ted Speaker. (2nd feature)

Slow Machine directed by Paul Felten & Joe Denardo

This year’s jury is composed of distributor Cécile Salin (Diaphana), producer Gabrielle Dumon (The Bureau), producer and exhibitor Nathanaël Karmitz (MK2), journalist/producer Scott Macaulay (Filmmaker Magazine), Eric Jolivalt (programmer of Le Capitole cinema and associate programmer of Max Linder cinema) and the program’s official technical partner Sophie Frilley (TitraFilm).

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist, and critic at IONCINEMA.com, established in 2000. A regular at Sundance, Cannes, and Venice, Eric holds a BFA in film studies from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013, he served on the narrative competition jury at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson’s "This Teacher" (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). He is a Golden Globes Voter, member of the ICS (International Cinephile Society) and AQCC (Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma).
