Girlhood Uninterrupted: Corsini Begins Pre-production on “Le retour”

After performing a full on physical and medical examination of the societal woes in her native France by way of a hospital emergency room in the Cannes comp La facture, Catherine Corsini will make a journey towards the south and explore teen female perspectives from a pair of in Le retour. It was announced that the project received some coin and is getting ready for a September shoot in Corsica.

Co-written alongside Naïla Guiguet (who participated on Louis Garrel’s last two outings as a director and co-wrote Thomas Salvador’s full on frottage of a mountain side in the Directors’ Fortnight winning La montagne), this will be a fourth time forn Corsini under the Chaz Productions label – which produced among others – La belle saison (read review). Production begins in September until mid November with a Cannes Film Festival berth as a possibility.

We don’t have any official synopsis, but Le retour will likely focus on two strong-minded and strong-willed teenage girls with Senegalese/European roots exploring issues of identity, class and sexuality. We could possibly have some fresh new acting talents — we imagine there’ll be more info to come prior to production.

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Current top films for 2022 include 1976 (Manuela Martelli), Godland (Hlynur Pálmason), Corsage (Marie Kreutzer), All That Breathes (Shaunak Sen).
