Piece of the Puzzle: Alice Winocour Books Virginie Efira for “Revoir Paris”

Augustine, Maryland and Proxima filmmaker Alice Winocour is set to begin production on her fourth feature film with production beginning this month and lasting into December. It appears that after some retooling that Virginie Efira has replaced the briefly mentioned Nicole Kidman in the lead role. Informed by the nightmarish events of the Paris November 2015 attacks, Revoir Paris was originally conceived as an English language project. IONCINEMA.com has been keeping tabs on the project since 2020 — Marcia Romano and Jean-Stéphane Bron co-wrote the project. Romano was recently celebrated for Happening – Audrey Diwan’s Golden Lion winner. Look for Revoir Paris to be readied for the fall film festival season.

Gist: One Saturday evening in the fall, Mia is caught in an attack in a Parisian brasserie. Three months later, when she still has not managed to get on with her life and only remembers the event in bits and pieces, Mia decides to investigate her memory. Memories of the man she hid with and whose hand she held throughout the attack come back. Is he still alive? Is she still alive? Mia searches Paris for the hand that saved her. By putting the pieces of the puzzle together, a path to possible happiness emerges for Mia.

Worth Noting: Winocour co-wrote Jean-Stéphane Bron’s closing episode in the 4-part mini-series  called Ondes de choc in 2018.

Do We Care?: Part of the New Wave of French female filmmakers a la Zlotowski, Sciamma and Quillévéré, Winocour definitely has the pulse on portraits that work with the psychological trauma – and it’ll be when of note to witness what a thematic delayed blast looks like when in double search-mode.
