2017 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Alethea Jones’ Fun Mom Dinner

Sundance programmers looking to add some funny bone component to the line-up might be looking towards Aussie, L.A. based filmmaker Alethea Jones’ female-centric comedy. For her feature debut, she managed to land a producing team that have backed a handful of Sundance projects and a quite the quartet in Katie Aselton, Toni Collette Bridget Everett and Molly Shannon. Production on Fun Mom Dinner took place in July, and included the participation of Morris from America cinematographer Sean McElwee.

Gist: Written by Julie Yaeger Rudd, centering on four moms whose only common ground is their kids’ preschool class, who decide to get together for a harmless “fun mom dinner.” When the night suddenly takes an unexpected turn and things gets real, these unlikely new friends soon realize they have more in common than just marriage and motherhood.

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl.
