35th European Film Awards: A Cannes Comp rematch for Ali Abbasi, Lukas Dhont & Ruben Ôstlund

35th European Film Awards: A Cannes Comp rematch for Ali Abbasi, Lukas Dhont & Ruben Ôstlund

Three huge winners at this year’s Cannes Film Festival lead the noms for the 35th European Film Awards. Lukas Dhont’s Close, Ali Abbasi’s Holy Spider and Ruben Ôstlund’s Triangle Of Sadness have landed four noms apiece and will face off in the European Film, Best Director and Best Screenwriter categories. To take place on December 10th, the awards are voted on via an army of 4,400 members (this is how you get a consensus best of folks). Marie Kreutzer’s Corsage landed three noms and it’s worth noting that it’ll be a major duel between Cannes Comp Best Actress winner Zar Amir Ebrahimi (for Holy Spider) versus
Un Certain Regard Best Performance winner Vicky Krieps. With only one nom a piece, Alice Diop’s Saint Omer lands on the scoresheet for Best European Director for Alice Diop while Aftersun received a nod for Best European Actor for Paul Mescal. Worth noting the winners of the Excellence Awards in the categories of European Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Make-up & Hair, Original Score, Sound and Visual Effects will be determined by an eight-member jury consisting of representatives of the different arts and crafts and will be announced on 23 November.
