2024 Cannes Film Festival: Hazanavicius’ “The Most Precious of Cargoes” & Rasoulof’s “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” in Comp

Date:

Are we capping off the Palme d’Or competition at twenty-one? This might be the case as we learned this morning (looks like Variety has red phone direct access to Thierry Frémaux) that the anticipated (we briefly discussed it in our 11th Hour predix) animated title in The Most Precious of Cargoes from Michel Hazanavicius and a complete surprise new title by Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof in The Seed of the Sacred Fig have been added. After three trips to the Un Certain Regard section, Rasoulof is finally included in the Main Comp — hopefully he’ll be able to be present on the Croisette for the premiere and not under house arrest or any of that garbage. The rest of the line-up will likely be unveiled by press release tomorrow.
