Top 100 Most Anticipated American Indie Films of 2018: #50. Jim Cummings’ Thunder Road

Thunder Road

Before unleashing one of the all-time best shorts to bust a move out of Sundance with the Short Film Grand Jury Prize winner, Jim Cummings was a name we were familiar with Patrick Wang’s The Grief of Others, Trey Edward Shults’ Krisha and now we know him as a creator in creative overdrive, having shot five shorts and a TV Mini-Series since the Sundance win. Among the best new voices from Sundance 2016 I stated, the devilishly funny, conceptually sophisticated and fastidiously well executed short film. In one stroke, Cummings demonstrates a formal rigour, an impressionable, sumptuous pulse and fall-out-of-your-seat choreography. Winner of the top prize with the Short Film Grand Jury Prize, Thunder Road is a crowd pleaser and one heck of a lucky charm calling card. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, In November, Cummings shot Thunder Road, the feature in Austin, Texas with producers Ben Wiessner and Natalie Metzger.

Spotful & IONCINEMA.com

This will explore the world of officer Jim Arnaud (Jim Cummings). Included among the supporting players we find Kendal Farr, Nican Robinson, Jocelyn DeBoer, Chelsea Edmundson, filmmaker Macon Blair, Bill Wise and Frank Mosley Based on his memorable must see short. We expect this pack a punch in the knee-slapper way and to carry the DNA of the short.

Release Date/Prediction: Technically, this could land in 3rd or 4th quarter film festival premiere in 2018, but Sundance programmers will likely try to convince the team to preem at the fest in 2019.
