2018 Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Intl. Film Fest: Lav Diaz & Lee Chang-Dong Among Highlights

Selections have been announced for the second edition of the Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Int. Film Festival. The brainchild of former Venice Film Fest topper Marco Müller and master filmmaker Jia Zhangke, this year the festival has lassoed Lav Diaz (check out our Berlin interview) and Lee Chang-Dong (check out our Cannes review of Burning) for Masterclass gigs and we once again find a sprinkling of international offerings from Sundance (Dead Pigs, Wildlife), mostly Cannes, Locarno (Hotel by the River, Too Late to Die Young) and TIFF title (Baby, Platform section winner Cities of Last Things) preems along with local fair. The fest which takes place on October 11th until the 20th in Pingyao mostly caters to next wave of filmmakers. Here are the program sections and film title selections. Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Current top films for 2022 include Tár (Todd Field), All That Breathes (Shaunak Sen), Aftersun (Charlotte Wells).
