Roberts and Owen reteam in 'Duplicity'

Posted by Chris Bumbray on Nov 01, 2007

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen are going to star in Duplicity, A Universal Pictures drama written and directed by Tony Gilroy- who recently helmed Michael Clayton. Roberts and Owen previously teamed in the Mike Nichols- directed Closer.

Described as a caper pic set in the world of big business, Owen and Roberts will play rival corporate spies that also happen to be lovers.
The film is set to roll in March- once Owen finishes work on the Tom Tykwer-directed The International. Roberts will next be seen in Charlie Wilson's War- directed by Nichols, in which she stars opposite Tom Hanks.

Duplicity sounds a bit like a corporate take on Mr. and Mrs. Smith- although under the direction of Gilroy, I imagine the film will not be as tongue in cheek as it sounds.

Michael Clayton was one hell of a debut for Gilroy, so it will be interesting to see his follow-up. He's definitely got himself a couple of heavy hitters with Roberts and Owen. Truth be told- I'm not a huge Julia Roberts fan. I think there's too much hype surrounding her- but that said, she can definitely deliver when need, as proved by her Oscar winning turn in Erin Brokovitch. Her chemistry with Owen in Closer was good, but he definitely dominated every scene he was in.

Clive Owen is definitely one of my favorite actors currently working in film. I'm been a fan of his since Croupier. He was terrific in Closer, and Children of Men was easily my favorite film of 2006.

Review: V/H/S

Review: V/H/S

"Overall, V/H/S is a slick and fun little romp of offerings from some newer voices in horror cinema. A much publicized incident of a couple vomiting and suffering seizures during the premier screening at Sundance 2012 may have has more to do with altitude sickness rather than disturbing imagery, as most of what occurs is quite tame by today’s horror standards. But the two standout elements of the anthology are the book ends."

Interview: Daniel Mulloy (Baby)

Brit Daniel Mulloy is an award-winning short filmmaker (over 80 fest awards folks) who belongs to both the extended Sundance filmmaking family and a celluloid loving family of his own -- we've featured his sister Lucy and her debut film, Una Noche which is headed off to Berlin next month. We've been keeping tabs on the helmer since 2006's "Antonio’s Breakfast," and it was last year where I got to speak to Mulloy about what should be the last of a string of shorts, before he embarks on the feature filmmaking portion of his career.
