Remains of the Day: John Hughes 1950-2009

Posted by Eric Lavallee on Aug 07, 2009
Source: Various Sources

My Beta cassette recorder chewed up copies of Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and especially Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the web salutes the leader of the Brat Pack. Here is a look at eight and 1/2 news items that we didn't have enough time to cover but are worth mentioning here for the 6th of August.

1. A DVD Milestone
A joint venture between art-house oldies Milestone and nouveau art-house Oscilloscope. Bring on The Exiles! (Via IndieWIRE.)

2. I Guess It's Pretty Serious...
My favorite John Hughes film and quote.

3. Samuel Goldwyn on Demand
The indie distributor makes a pact with Epix for on demand platform. (Via Variety)

4. No Memory Loss Adaptation
Unknown White Male now starring Liam Neeson and has nothing to do with the documentary film. (Via Variety)

5. Punch Comes with the Dinner
2010 it girl Lucy Punch goes from Woody Allen to French film comedy remake: Dinner for Schmucks. (Via THR

6. Multi-tasker
Judd Apatow has got projects coming out of his ... (Via The Playlist

7. Charlie Rose Pulls Out a Pair of Seats for:
Sophie Barthes and Paul Giamatti (Cold Souls!)

8. Keep More Things Coming
Where the Wild Things Are: Trailer Numero 2 (Via Firstshowing.net)

1/2. Circle that Date
Surprise - the Indie Spirit awards will be held during the Friday night (March 5th), and not the Saturday afternoon before the Sunday nights' Oscars. Sounds like a good idea to me since one is not like the other.

Review: Kill List

Review: Kill List

"As the film crosses over into frenetic violence and foreboding happenings, the excellent soundtrack heightens the tension. When Jay begins to lose his cool, anxiety gives way to despair as events finally spiral out of control. Wheatley manages to get excellent performances from his cast, in particular the stunning MyAnna Buring as Jay’s wife, and proves he’s one of the best upcoming voices in British cinema."

Interview: Daniel Mulloy (Baby)

Brit Daniel Mulloy is an award-winning short filmmaker (over 80 fest awards folks) who belongs to both the extended Sundance filmmaking family and a celluloid loving family of his own -- we've featured his sister Lucy and her debut film, Una Noche which is headed off to Berlin next month. We've been keeping tabs on the helmer since 2006's "Antonio’s Breakfast," and it was last year where I got to speak to Mulloy about what should be the last of a string of shorts, before he embarks on the feature filmmaking portion of his career.
