Wasikowska and Fassbender Join Fukunaga's Version of 'Jane Eyre'

Looks like Focus Features have stuck to Cary Fukunaga like glue. There have been tons of mentions for other projects since Sin Nombre was the talk of the town at Sundance, but his sophomore feature is looking stronger by the minute to be a gothic version of Jane Eyre (the script that was considered among one of the better ones in circulation). Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender are in negotiations to topline the feature which would go into production next year. If they sign up, it'll be a fun shoot with director and actors all hitting a "sweet spot" in their acting careers. Wasikowska's last and current film is with Tim Burton and Gus Van Sant. Not too shabby.

Scripted by Moira Buffini (Tamara Drewe), this is an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" which will play up the gothic elements of the classic 19th century story about a demure governess Jane (Wasikowska), who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret.

Since Hunger (look for the Criterion release next year), Fassbender has taken the film world by storm, playing a bit part in Tarantino's Basterds and he had the chance to go into Andrea Arnold's Fish Tank blindly - he took the part, with Arnold filming in shooting order and was kept in the dark as to the film's narrative and character's denouement.

How can we get Dominic West to be Mr. Rochester? Fassbender is much too young and fair.

My casting director suggested her and I went to Paris to meet her. She loved the script and she's an amazing actress so of course I wanted to work with her. Playing an artist is very hard as it can come of as super fake, but Elodie is an artist in real life and that translated. Who doesn't like Dream Life of Angels?!

Reviews

Review: Police, Adjective

Patterned with minimalist surroundings, low-key performances and long takes that are filmed in real time, the almost mute Police, Adjective cleverly details how Romanian society has not entirely deposed of, or moved away from its past with this anti-thesis of a Michael Mann film.

Interviews

Interview: Actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)

I wanted to change my body. I wanted to be a little bit more masculine and get rid of my female body. I wanted to be more like a boy. I wanted to be able to do all the fighting scenes, so I wanted to go into martial arts training. I trained a lot in Thai boxing and kickboxing with this crazy Serbian guy five days a week. I did a lot of preparation, and I also took motorcycle driving lessons, and I cut my hair and pierced myself.
