2021 Venice Film Festival: Blonde is MIA, Franco’s Sundown, Vasyanovych’s Reflection, Frammartino’s The Hole, Larrain’s Spencer in COMP

While Netflix is present Andrew Dominik’s Blonde and Claire Denis’ Fire is nowhere to be found, the official selection for the 2021 edition of the Venice Film Festival has been announced and in the copm we find the likes of Frammartino’s The Hole, Amirpour’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, Pablo Larrain’s Spencer, Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter, Paolo Sorrentino’s The Hand of God, Valentyn Vasyanovych’s supposed very graphic an unflinching Reflection, and finally, Lorenzo Vigas’ long-awaited La Caja and he will be facing off against his producer Michel Franco who brings Sundown to the Lido. Some surprise insertions include Audrey Diwan’s L’Evenement, Jan P. Matuszyski’s Leave No Traces, Erik Matti’s On The Job: The Missing 8 and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s debut The Lost Daughter. Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Current top films for 2022 include Tár (Todd Field), All That Breathes (Shaunak Sen), Aftersun (Charlotte Wells).
