Another feature debut on our list that we’re highly curious about is this item that received some coin backing from Gan Film Foundation and moved into production exactly one year ago. French filmmaker Romain de Saint-Blanquat appears to be working with a 60’s spirit and early horror works template in La Morsure — the project, filmed in the South of France (mainly Normandy), sees Léonie Dahan-Lamort and Lilith Grasmug (Bloody Oranges) topline with Cyril Metzger (Happening), Maxime Rohart and Fred Blin completing the main cast. This was produced by Easy Tiger’s Marc-Benoit Créancier (Magnetic Beats).

Gist: This takes us back to Shrove Tuesday in 1967. Seventeen-year-old Françoise is a boarder in a Catholic High School. Convinced she only has one night to live before she dies, she sneaks out with her friend Delphine to attend a costume party and live this night as if it were her last.

Release Date/Prediction: We have this earmarked as a possible Cannes selection – with the Critics’ Week people keenly taking a first glance at the picture.

Eric Lavallée

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl.
