Everything Everywhere All At Once, Tár, Women Talking and Bones and All are the heavyweight indies that will be properly feted the day before the Oscars, but its films such as Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović’s Murina, Jamie Dack’s Palm Trees and Power Lines and Ricky D’Ambrose’s The Cathedral that are having their own victory laps of sorts with today’s Film Independent Spirit Awards nominations. Aftersun lands five nominations, Palm Trees and Power Lines lassoed four and Emily the Criminal matched that tally while Murina and The Cathedral grabbed a trio each.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the tops all nominated films with eight apiece and the A24 folks dominate all distributors with a fitting twenty four nominations in all. The biggest surprise might be the Our Father, the Devil team who nab a Best Feature nomination going up against Bones and All, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Women Talking and Tár.
